The Final Post - but not the end of the path
Reflecting on this Genius Hour project confirms that I have a supportive and hospitable nature. My first reaction when others struggle is, “How can I help?” and “What can I do?”.
Maybe it's being a middle child, definitely my upbringing, and maybe being in the hospitality industry for 20+ years which has made me this way. My Genius Hour is not only about helping others but also teaching, exposing and showing students the impact their time, effort and support can have on others.
My intention in all the work I am doing for these Brock U Tech Ed courses is to use them in some way when I become a high school teacher. The idea of the Bright Bites food program came very easily since, in my role as a food tech in a high school, I see the kids that get food allotments each month and how fast the breakfast club fridge is emptied.
Since this
course was so quick, I haven’t gotten enough done to start implementing this
plan at a high school. A lot more can be done, and although the whole program
is not fully formed, I still intend to speak to one of the school social workers
and to the principal to hear their thoughts about this program.
As I continue
to develop the program and create a plan of execution, there will be bumps
along the way, and I have to pivot. I am sure changes will be made, but right
now, I can’t foresee them. Since the program will be run all school year and
there are 2 semesters of students executing the program, I can see minor
adjustments for food production based on the students' dynamics in each of the
semesters.
Thank you
to all who have followed me on this Genius Hour Project journey.
